Cambo Actus Sony E-Mount View Camera

sony a7 view camera cambo actus

Cambo ACTUS - a compact view camera made for the Sony A7 cameras.

ACTUS is based on the X2 Pro View Camera System

The Cambo ACTUS is a view camera system with E-mount compatibility. This allows us to have tilt and shift movement using the Sony A7, a6000, or NEX cameras. Cambo has the X2 Pro which is made for DSLRs, the ACTUS is half the weight and around 40% less in size than the X2 Pro.

Pictures shown are not final.

ACTUS provides Front Tilt and Swing and Rear Shift

from Capture Integration:
Cambo is proud to announce the new compact ACTUS View Camera. The Actus is a new technology camera system designed for mirrorless cameras, such as the Sony Alpha 7 series. Cambo is working on the final product developments before the official announcement in the upcoming weeks. Read below for the specs that we have today.

The system is expected to ship in early July. Depending on the configuration, the core system will be available in the ballpark of 1,500€.

The core system will include the camera, bellows, bayonet, and the customers choice of Sony, Canon or Nikon mount. This design offers advantages over the X2 platform. According to Cambo’s product managers, the system offers easy rotation and simplified bayonet designs.

NEX-7 with Contax Zeiss Tilt Adapter

sony nex-7 contax zeiss lens tilt adapter

Here are a few shots from the Sony NEX-7 and a tilt lens adapter with a Contax Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 Distagon. The 28mm lens provides an effective focal length of 42mm, very close to the human eye's fov.

The tilt adapter provides fun images, we posted about the tilt adapter in August 2010. It's great on the NEX system with focus peaking as you can see focus band as you "tilt" the lens. We have not shot much using tilt and were wondering if it can make it in our travel bag where space and weight is a premium. Do you have any tips for new users of tilt lenses?

Sony NEX Leica 28mm Elmarit-R via Tilt Adapter

icie sent us an email sharing his images from his recent trip with the Sony NEX-5 and a Leica 28 f/2.8 Elmarit-R via a Kipon tilt adapter, which we posted about previously. Here is a quick review from icie on his experience using the NEX and a manual focus lens.
While the lens is not the best ever, most notably due to its chromatic aberration, it is pretty sharp wide open, and also the manual control over the aperture meant I could use the NEX-5’s handheld twilight mode stopped down at aperture values like f/8 (with the electronic lenses, the mode automatically sets it to the widest possible aperture, with no option to change it).

Overall, it was quite interesting to shoot a week with manual focus, and of course I missed a lot of shots since I was not used to it. However, it is a truly useful skill to develop, and i did enjoy the tactile control over the lens functions.
Here are some of his images:

Sony NEX Kipon Tilt Lens Adapters Available

So how do you achieve the selective focus as seen in the video above? It is done with by tilting the lens so that it is not parallel to the image sensor, aka the Scheimpflug principle.

Kipon released 4 tilt adapters for the Sony NEX cameras. Contax / Yashica, Leica R, M42, and Nikon F manual focus lenses can be adapted and tilted on the Sony NEX. They are available on eBay and Amazon.

Sony NEX-3 Arax 80mm Tilt Shift Lens

Here's a video taken with the NEX-3 and the MC Arax 80mm f/2.8 tilt and shift lens. The lens is adapted on the NEX via an Canon EOS adapter.

The lens gives us a nice classic look. You can also see the "miniature faking" effect of the tilt feature of the lens.
